Bob Figgins

Dr. Bob G. Figgins, age 79, of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020. Memorials may be made in his name to The Bob Figgins Mentoring Award at University of Tennessee at Martin and The Sparrows Nest in O’Fallon. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin Church of Christ, 233 Oxford St. He was born in Caruthersville, Missouri, Jan. 17, 1940 and was loving husband of 54 years to Melba Figgins; beloved son of the late Glen and Laura Figgins; devoted father of Anne (Michael) Schoch, Robert (Carissa) Figgins and Michael (Ember) Figgins; and cherished grandfather of Emma, Chloe, Samuel, Lily, Nicholas, and Alexander. Bob was a dedicated college professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He taught for 46 years and served as the Chairman of the Economics and Finance Department for 34 years. He was a devoted member of the Martin Church of Christ in Martin Tennessee for 44 years and the O’Fallon Church of Christ in O’Fallon for two years. Family meant everything to Bob. He was a supportive father, and an enthusiastic soccer coach, teller of bad jokes and knew the Bible inside and out. Bob cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He built the family home and instilled a foundation of faith, love and passion of education to his family. Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bob is also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Figgins and J.W. Figgins.

    This is very sad news. Dr. Figgins was a very supportive faculty member when I attended UTM and was a student worker in the Bus. Admin. office. Yes, always one of his good “bad jokes” as he strode in with a cup of coffee in his hand – that was a way to start a day! Rest in Peace dear old friend!
