Robert Sugg

Robert Edward “Bob” Sugg, age 87, of Dyersburg, formerly of Martin, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg with Rev. Mike Hickman officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Bob was born March 1, 1932 in Memphis to Thomas Leland and Lona Stroud Sugg. He grew up in Wynne, Arkansas, was retired from the University of Tennessee at Martin and was a member of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg. He leaves behind two daughters, Melissa Melton (Steve) of Dyersburg and Beverly Ballard (Duke) of Lebanon; two sons, Greg Sugg (Lynn) of Mt. Juliet and Scott Sugg of Collierville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim Sugg (Lou) of Wynne, Arkansas and Dick Sugg (Pat) of Wichita Falls, Texas. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Darlene Timberlake Sugg; his sister, Betty Courtway; and three brothers, Jack Sugg, Ronnie Sugg, and Addison Sugg. The family requests that memorials be directed to New Life Union Mission, 213 West Cedar Street, Dyersburg, 38024 or to First Baptist Church, 220 West Masonic Street, Dyersburg 38024.

    He was a good man,an excellent professor and a gentle spirit
