She was born April 8, 1937, in Union City and was a 1955 graduate of Union City High School.
Virginia Shore and Virgil Terry were married at Union City First Baptist Church Nov. 11, 1956. She completed a bachelor of science degree in education in 1988 at Abilene Christian University. For more than 21 years, she worked for Sweetwater ISD as a special educator/social and life skills teacher.
After retiring in 2009, she continued to substitute teach for Abilene ISD until January 2016. She was superb at everything from being a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and a mentor. Most of all, she was a woman of Christ. Everyone will miss her cooking, zest for life, generosity, winks and her smile.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Shore and L.C. “Slim” and Jewell Ward; and her son, Kurt Terry.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 59 years, Virgil Terry of Abilene; her son, Mark Terry of Abilene; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jerry Melton of Sherman, Texas; her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Ted Perry of Union City; two nieces and their spouses, Gena and Scott Kepner and Ginger and Chad Odle, all of Union City; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Terry; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; along with other extended family members, especially her aunt, Betty Forrester of Cordova.
