She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Obion County, daughter of the late Morris and Elva (Pendergrass) Blakemore. She married Howard Edwin Roney May 26, 1950. He died July 16, 2008. She attended high school in Rives and business school in Memphis. She had been employed in the office at the former Brown Shoe Co. in Union City, and later in the office of the Doctors Clinic. She had also worked at the former Sam and How Shoe Store.
Known for her great sense of humor and gregarious nature, Susie never met a stranger. She was greatly loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Church and family came first in her life. Among her other joys was her love for basketball. She played while attending high school in Rives and was named a Tennessee All-State player. She was also an avid golfer who loved playing cards and being a volunteer as a Pink Lady at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
She was a member of Rives Union Church her entire life, where she sang in the choir.
Just as she was so dearly loved in this life, so will she be deeply missed.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Marshall Sparkman of Franklin; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve and Sharon Roney of Memphis; and five grandchildren, Amy Sparkman of Charlottesville, Va., Matt Sparkman of Union City and Paul Roney, Andrew Roney and Jonathan Roney, all of Memphis.
She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
