Billy Joe Woodruff
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin.
Pallbearers will be Jay Powers, Terry Woodruff, Kevin Woodruff, Larry Woodruff, Ralph Cooper and Richard Cooper.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Dresden, son of the late Rufus and Mamon (Prince) Woodruff. He was married to the former Maurine Bell, who survives. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a former alderman for the City of Martin and had been former general chairman of the Illinois-Central Railroad union.
He was a member of Martin First Baptist Church; Martin Masonic Lodge No. 551, where he served as past master; and American Legion Post No. 69.
He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Judy Woodruff of Memphis; his daughter, Lisa Jo Woodruff of Woodland Hills, Calif.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, James Russell and Carol Abernathy and Randy Lee and Claudette Abernathy, all of Union City; two grandchildren and the spouse of one, Joseph R. and Micah Woodruff and Lori Michelle Dood; his step-grandson, Shane Lee Abernathy; and two great-grandchildren, Jax Dood and Jami Dood.
