Monday morning, Obion County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program hosted Safari Greg, who wowed his young audience with a plethora of exotic animals. Volunteers from the library’s Teen Advisory Group, including (from left) Hailey Slaughter, daugher of Jimmy and Kim Slaughter; Brianna Hammond, daughter of Greg Hammond and Krystal Hammond; Lexie Lunsford, daughter of Tina and David Lunsford; and John Alex Warner, son of Jack and Mellany Warner, assisted Safari Greg in handling his 16-year-old boa constrictor. Every summer, Safari Greg travels from Austin, Texas, to put on this program for the library. Monday, more than 400 adults and children attended the event in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church’s activity center near the public library’s outdoor garden. The library puts on many events during the summer as reading incentives and has more than 300 children and youth partipating in the program each summer. Musician Kevin Kidd is scheduled to perform at 10 a.m. Monday.
