Four departments battle Sharon blaze

SHARON — Louie Totty was asleep on the couch early Sunday morning when his Australian shepherd, Jenny, woke him up because his house on Nolan Road was on fire.
Totty was able to get out, but firefighters from Greenfield, Dresden and Martin had to help about 12 Sharon firefighters battle the blaze from 1:30 to 6:30 a.m.
“When we arrived on the scene, we could see flames,” Sharon Volunteer Fire Chief Gary Eddings said. “It was one of the toughest fires we have had to fight in a while.”
And the reason the structure was so tough was because of two metal roofs. “We had two roof lines and the house was built around a trailer,” Eddings said.
Eddings said he called Greenfield, Dresden and Martin fire departments for water and mutual aid. He also called the Weakley County Rescue Squad.
While the structure was a total loss, no one was injured in the fire.
Eddings said the bulk of the fire was on the end of the house near the fuse and meter boxes. “This could be the possible cause, but the fire is still under investigation,” he said.
“We are thankful for all of the other departments and the rescue squad for helping us.”
