Several piano students from the class of Linda Williams in Union City concluded a successful year of piano study with auditions and awards recently.
In April, the Martin Area Music Teachers Association sponsored auditions in Martin with five students being selected to participate in the Tennessee State Music Teachers Auditions. Included in this group were Rebecca Fernandez, Helen Kendall, Martha Kendall, Abigail Wiggins and Macy Yates.
In May, the National Guild of Piano Teachers held auditions for membership in the National Federation of Student Musicians. Those receiving high marks for their work were Robyn Burden, Carol Ann Clanton, Chloe Cook, Helen Kendall, Martha Kendall, Caleb Parker, Alex Quinn, Joanna Wiggins, Abigail Wiggins and Macy Yates. Each entrant performed from four to 10 memorized pieces and underwent examinations in theory.
In addition, Martha Kendall, a 2013 graduate, was awarded her high school diploma in piano by the National Guild of Piano Teachers for her audition, which included 15 memorized pieces performed for an adjudicator selected by the guild. Miss Kendall then entertained friends and family with her senior recital presented at Grace Presbyterian Church in Troy, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall hosted by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Kendall.
During the Tennessee Music Teachers Association conference, held in Jackson this month, Helen Kendall, Abigail Wiggins and Macy Yates performed in the state auditions.
“We are very fortunate to have such talented and dedicated students representing our area in the field of music,” Mrs. Williams said.
