A Union City man was charged after his vehicle ran off West Main Street in Union City and destroyed three mailboxes early Sunday.
Roderick Deion Jones, 38, of 1508 Matthews St., Union City, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a revoked license in connection with a crash that occurred about 12:25 a.m. Sunday on West Main Street at Springdale Drive.
According to a Union City Police Department report, Jones’ 1998 Ford large utility vehicle ran off the roadway going west in the 3300 block of West Main Street. It first struck a mailbox at 3307 West Main St., then struck a brick and concrete mailbox at 3311 West Main St., and then hit the mailbox and post at 3317 West Main St. The vehicle came to rest across the street.
Police said the driver left the scene of the accident and reported a check of the owner and driver showed Jones’ license to be revoked for DUI. A witness described the driver to police and indicated he saw the driver leave the scene in another vehicle.
Jones was arrested late Sunday night at his home.
