One passenger was treated for possible injury following a five-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on West Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
The accident occurred about 2:55 p.m. at West Reelfoot Avenue and Green Acres Drive in front of Green Acres Mobile Home Park, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police reported three vehicles — a 1999 Dodge driven by Linda Carter, 55, of 125 South 10th St., Obion; a 2009 Toyota driven by Shirley Ragsdale, 70, of 2777 Latimer Road, Union City; and a 2003 Dodge driven by Mathew Riffe, 23, of 645 West Key Road, Troy — were all traveling westbound on West Reelfoot Avenue. They were attempting to stop for a traffic light when a 2008 Ford driven by Eryn McCall Hart, 20, of 1465 Lynwood Drive, Troy, struck Riffe’s vehicle in the rear due to allegedly following too closely.
Riffe’s vehicle then struck Ms. Ragsdale’s vehicle, causing it to roll forward and strike the rear bumper of Ms. Carter’s vehicle, police reported.
As traffic was slowing due to the accident, a 2007 Ford driven by Martha Jackson, 65, of 1333 Marshall Kirk Road, Troy, then struck Ms. Hart’s vehicle in the rear bumper, according to the report.
One of Riffe’s five passengers, 24-year-old Jessica Riffe, also of 645 West Key Road, was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment.
Ms. Hart was issued a citation for a charge of following too close, according to police.
