Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services has chosen local songwriter Phillip Coleman as its 2013 Honorary Star of Compassion Award recipient.
He was honored for the compassionate acts of good he has displayed with presentation of the Star of Compassion Award today at KYTN studios in Union City.
Coleman, an Obion County native, wrote the hit song “Cost of Livin’” and it was recorded by Ronnie Dunn, formerly of country music duo Brooks & Dunn, in a music video featuring former Goodyear employees from Obion County. A spokesman for Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services said the recording gave local voices a national stage to confront serious issues the country faces now, such as unemployment and finding work in a bad economy.
This year, Coleman shares the Star of Compassion Award with socialite Paris Hilton, who starred in the reality series “The Simple Life.”
The 2012 award recipient was singer Taylor Swift and a Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services spokesman said she currently serves on the agency’s advisory cabinet. He will join her on the official website with a biography and honorary position on the cabinet.
