A Hornbeak woman was charged with drug-related offenses and several counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor following an alleged incident early Wednesday in Union City.
Kadie Elizabeth Burpo, 20, of 487 Robert Woods Road, Hornbeak, was arrested at 1:48 a.m. Wednesday in the back parking lot of County Marketplace at 1700 West Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police said she was charged with possession of marjuana, possession of drug parapernalia and eight counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police were in the area conducting a building check at a store in the shopping center shortly after 1 a.m. when they discovered two trucks parked there with what appeared to be several juveniles standing around and sitting in the vehicles. An officer said he counted nine people and asked their ages, confirming there were seven male juveniles, one female juvenile and one adult female. They were asked for identification and Ms. Burpo told police she was 20 years old, police reported.
The officer reported he smelled an odor of burnt marijuana and said a search of a vehicle yielded a tobacco grinder as well as two pipes of the type used to smoke marijuana, with marijuana residue. The grinder contained 0.2 grams of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, according to the report.
As a result, Ms. Burpo was charged with the drug-related and contributing charges, while the eight juveniles were each charged with curfew violation through juvenile court.
