Carthel Duane Wheeler, 95, of Latham, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Weakley County Rehab & Nursing Center in Dresden.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Latham with Donald Doster and Jim Garner officiating. Burial was in New Hope Church Cemetery with Bowlin Funeral Home of Dresden in charge of the arrangements.
Wheeler was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Latham, son of the late Cylvester Harcourt and Florence Irene Payne Wheeler. He was the widower of Eva Dell Winstead Wheeler, Bonnie Holland Wheeler and Ella Mae Black Wheeler. He attended Bible Union Grade School, was a self-employed farmer and gas station owner. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for Dukedom Bank and Weakley County Bank. He was a life long member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include four stepdaughters, Susie Henley of Memphis, Jan Byars of Martin, Diane (Jere) Crenshaw and Ricky (Kelly) Edmison, both of Union City; twostep sons, Larry (Linda) Pollard of Latham and Jerry Pollard of Greenville; one cousin, Carolyn Milford of Blacklick, Ohio; 16 step grandchildren; and 18 step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one stepsister, Rachel Winstead; and three stepbrothers, Oran Winstead, Ralph Winstead and Charles Winstead.
