Odis Carmichael, 91, of Martin, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at his residence.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bible Union Baptist Church, Martin with Rev. Terry Griffin and Rev. Dwayne Erwin officiating with Murphy Funeral Home of Martin in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in Martin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until funeral time at the church.
Carmichael was born May 3, 1922 in Weakley County, son of the late Major and Marjorie Crittendon Carmichael. He was the widower of Nell Smith Carmichael. He was a graduate of Union City High School, a World War II Bomber Pilot in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a former Magistrate on Weakley County Court, a retired farmer, former District Director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (A.S.C.S.). He was a member of Bible Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Carmichael and Mark Carmichael, both of Martin; one daughter, Barbara (Benny) Castleman of Martin; one sister, Edna (Hilman) Walker of Memphis; five grandchildren, Clair Oliver, Kelly Smith, Jamie Harris, Ben Carmichael and Brian Castleman; and five great-grandchildren, London Carmichael, Maggie Oliver, Mollie Oliver, Mary Kate Smith and Leah Grace Smith.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Carmichael.
