Andrew Lee “Butch” Byars, 65, of Palmersville died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was a former resident of Union City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home in Union City with Bro. Mike Ozment and Bro. Pete Staples officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Larry Ferrell, Danny Fisher, Jonathan Lewis, Alan Barge, Mike Petty and Richard Scarbrough will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Davis, Rex Cloar, Gary Hurt, Jimmy Burress, Charles Norsworthy, Bill Brown, Tony Green, Justin Staples, Josh Staples, Jonathan Staples, Bob Webb, Dale Vinson, Hugh Brann, Dale McCant and William Winstead.

Byars was born Feb. 22, 1948 in Weakley County, son of the late Guy Byars Jr. and Mary Frances Cooper Kruliski. He retired from the maintenance department at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City after 25 years of service and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Dresden.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Judy Gurien Byars, who he married Nov. 27, 1969; daughter, Christy Byars (Steve) Gibson of Greenfield; his stepmother, Carrie Byars of Union City; two sisters, Cindy Bynum of Martin and Lisa (Jim) Horner of Union City; three brothers, Monty (Mary) Byars of Rives, Leonard (Rhonda) Davis of Union City and Donnie Brock of Danville, Va.; several sisters and brothers-in-law in Union City and Troy; and three grandchildren, Olivia Gibson, Isabelle Gibson and Gunner Michael Gibson, all of Greenfield.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Paula Counsell; and one brother, Paul Byars.
