Ralph Charles Marcus, 89, of Smyrna passed away June 5, 2013. He was a former resident of Martin.
Services will be held at Stone’s River Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Oscar White officiating. Burial will follow there in Mapleview Cemetery.
Ryan Gregory, David Bernstein, Marcus Hoffstetter, Zachary Pruiett, Ronnie Perryman and Mike Downs will serve as pallbearers. Woodfin Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He served in three branches of the Armed Forces, the U.S. Navy, Marines and Army, and fought in three wars, being a part of the second wave on the invasion of Iwo Jima during World War II. He later served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1968 as a SFC-E7, he moved his family to Memphis, then to Martin, before moving to Smyrna in 1990.
He was a member of Stone’s River Baptist Church in Smyrna.
He leaves behind four daughters and three sons-in-law, Diana Bernstein, Kathy and John Dawson, Terrie and Jim Bryan and Beth and Shane Pruiett; 10 grandchildren, David Bernstein, Paul Bernstein, Amy Dawson, Ryan Gregory, Rebecca Gregory, Marcus Hoffstetter, Jessica Hoffstetter, Ashley Pruiett, Zachary Pruiett and Kelly Flatt; eight great-grandchildren; beloved cousins, John and Jenny Dyer; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Sarah Dyer Marcus; his father and mother, Jess and Jessie Marcus; and his sister, Clelon Marcus.
