Two teenagers — one from Fulton and one from Union City — were taken into custody on attempted burglary and marijuana charges after Fulton police responded Friday evening to a report of a burglary in progress.
Police responded to a residence on Eastwood Drive in Fulton just before 5 p.m. Friday after receiving a call about a burglary in progress.
The owner of the home said two black males were attempting to break into the home but they fled on foot when they saw his 77-year-old mother inside, according to Fulton Police Chief Terry Powell.
The elderly women saw the intruders and gave a description to police, who canvassed the area looking for the suspects. Among those involved in the search were the Fulton Police Department, Fulton County (Ky.) jailer, South Fulton Police Department, Kentucky State Police and Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.
The two suspects were located walking on North Highland Drive in Fulton and were identified as a 17-year-old from Fulton and a 15-year-old from Union City. Both were taken into custody and were charged with second-degree attempted burglary and possession of marijuana, police reported.
Powell said the juveniles, whose names were not disclosed by police, confessed to the alleged attempted burglary and gave a statement that they were looking for money.
The two teens were transported to the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center in Paducah, Ky.
