A Rives man was arrested on alcohol- and drug-related charges following a traffic stop late Monday night in Union City.
Steven Wayne Reddin, 49, of 622 South Central High Road, Rives, was arrested at 11:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Reelfoot Avenue on charges of driving under the influence, possession of Schedule II (cocaine) for resale and violation of the implied consent law, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A police investigator stopped a vehicle driven by Reddin after allegedly observing erratic driving while following the vehicle. The investigator reported he detected a “very strong” odor of alcohol when the driver opened his door and he said the driver nearly fell while exiting the vehicle. When asked for his driver’s license, the driver allegedly fumbled in his wallet for a minute before removing a credit card.
According to the report, when police asked Reddin to perform field sobriety tests, he just stared at the investigator. At that point, Reddin was taken into custody for DUI.
While doing an inventory of the vehicle, the investigator located a baggy containing a white chunky powder which field tested positive as cocaine, police reported. It weighed 2.6 grams, with packaging.
Police reported Reddin refused to cooperate when jail personnel attempted to search him at the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex and had to be tased in order to get his clothing.
