Tiptonville Main Street plans barbecue event

Blue Suede Shoes ’n’ BBQ for 2013 will be getting under way in downtown Tiptonville beginning Tuesday. The kick-off for this year’s Tiptonville Main Street event will be the Pig Gig at Main Street Centre, located at 218 Church St. downtown, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a barbecue supper with all the trimmings and entertainment as well.
“Come hungry, as you know that Main Street always has plenty to eat,” a spokesman said.
Tickets for the dinner are $12.
The barbecue competition will be June 7 and 8, with winners being announced on the final day in the historic Strand Theatre. Magical Mink’s from Union City will be making a return appearance for family fun, as well. From 5-10 p.m., there will be train rides, a “Bug’s Life” obstacle course, the Adventure obstacle course and the Monster Truck Jump House, along with other surprises. Vocal entertainment will be provided by members of the Bogota Hee Haw show, including Tab Hawkins, Gerald Burkett, Addie Pearl Burkett, Jeff Jones, Pam Mabry and Mitzi Simmons. Sheriff Bryan Avery and his staff will once again be “locking up” suspects, with donations going to Main Street.
The event will be located in downtown Tiptonville in Markham Park and in the Veterans Park across from the Lake County Courthouse.
Tiptonville Main Street is a 501(c)3 non-profit. All funds are used to benefit Tiptonville and the historic downtown area. For more information, call (731) 253-8144.
