A Union City man was injured during a one-vehicle accident Wednesday night.
Stanley B. Mitchell, 55, of 1185 Pleasant Valley Road, told police he fell asleep while driving. He ran off the roadway on Stonewall Drive, striking an embankment before coming to a rest in a field.
He suffered severe injuries to his legs and face and was airlifted from the wreck scene to a Memphis hospital, according to a Union City Police report.
While completing an inventory for the tow slip, the officer reported he found a fully-loaded Rossi 357 Magnum revolver inside a holster under the front passenger seat. A check of Mitchell’s driver’s license revealed that he did not have a valid handgun permit and, since Mitchell was airlifted to the hospital, charges are pending for unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the report.
