EKU, APSU earn
sportsmanship honor

The Eastern Kentucky men’s team and the Austin Peay women’s team are the recipients of the OVC 2012-13 Team Sportsmanship Awards for outdoor track and field.
The 2012-13 school year marks the eighth year the team sportsmanship honors have been awarded. This marks the second award for the EKU men’s team (they also won in 2007) and also for the APSU women’s team (they last won in 2011).
The Eastern Kentucky men finished fourth, and the Austin Peay women’s track and field team was eighth at the OVC Outdoor Championship in 2013.

Top recruiter Kirby
joins Memphis staff

MEMPHIS (AP) — Memphis coach Josh Pastner has hired Robert Kirby as an assistant coach for the Tigers.
Pastner announced the hiring late last week, a move that must be approved by the both the university and the Tennessee State Board of Regents that oversees Memphis.
Kirby is a Memphis native who spent last season as an assistant to Johnny Jones at LSU. Kirby is considered one of the nation’s top recruiters, and he has coached at seven different NCAA Division I schools, including Georgetown, Houston and Mississippi State.

Wildcats get QB
to run pass attack

HEBRON, Ky. (AP) — Drew Barker will play for Kentucky, giving the Wildcats a quarterback to run their new pass-oriented offense.
The Conner High School QB made his announcement Friday. Several schools were recruiting the 6-foot-4, 210-pound dual threat who became one of the nation’s top prospects after passing for 2,067 yards, rushing for 1,422 and scoring 40 touchdowns as a junior.
Kentucky beat out SEC rivals Tennessee and South Carolina following a late pitch by first-year Wildcats coach Mark Stoops and his staff.
