Lael SS Class meets at church Posted: Thursday, May 23, 2013 6:00 pm The Messenger, May 23, 2013 Lael Sunday School Class met recently for the regular monthly meeting at Union City First Baptist Church in the family life center. The meeting was called to order with prayer by outreach leader Faye Passmore. Those in need of prayer for healing were mentioned and the teacher, Joyce Stephens, led that petition. The project for the month was to give a donation to Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. The devotional was brought by Louise Petty and was based on I John 2:15-17. She related the following story: “‘What are you doing?’ I asked my little boy as he rummaged through my bag, which hung on the stroller. “‘Animal crackers,’ he whined. “I gave him a box and he sat contented. I did not realize he had thrown my wallet onto the sidewalk looking for his snack. I went to the store and got my things and when I went to pay, my wallet was gone, with over $200 in it. I rushed back home and could not find it. I kept saying, ‘My money —’ “The phrase brought to my mind a book I had read which pointed out it really isn’t my money, it is God’s money. As I meditated on these words, a peace came over me. It was God’s money.” Dorothy Rasberry was the hostess for the month and she served red velvet cake, ice cream, candy and Chex™ mix with drinks. Those attending were Dot Capps, Ms. Petty, Jean Eaker, Trudy Thornton, Mrs. Stephens, Pat Cunningham, Edna McIntosh, Ms. Rasberry and Ms. Passmore. Next month’s hostess will be Mrs. Cunningham. |
