Church news Posted: Thursday, May 23, 2013 6:00 pm The Messenger, May 23, 2013 VBS planned New Concord Baptist Church, located at 3672 Concord Road near Kenton, will be having Vacation Bible School June 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Children from 3 years of age through fifth grade are invited to “Take the Plunge” and learn about Jesus in this year’s event, a spokesman said. To note Decoration Day Decoration Day will be observed Sunday at Stanley’s Cemetery, near the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport outside Union City. Brad Thompson of Union City will be the guest speaker. The program will begin at 11 a.m. and a noon meal will be served, with the business session to follow from 1:30-2. Special music and singing are planned to take place 2-3. Members of the finance committee include Emily Haynes (Stanley), Jennifer Powers (Midway), Lucy Johnston (Union City), Tammy Rinks (Martin), Martha Brown (out of town) and Patsy McWherter (out of town). Men’s Day planning set The planning session for the 52nd annual United Men’s Day will be at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Friday at 5 p.m., according to chairman Ardell Maddox. All those who are willing to help arrange the celebration are encouraged to attend. Women’s Day event set Bells Chapel CME Church, located at 207 North Highland Drive in Fulton, will celebrate the annual Women’s Day with a program Sunday at 3 p.m. Presiding Elder Delmetria Cayson Combs from Elizabethtown, Ky., will be the guest speaker. The community is invited to attend, according to the pastor, the Rev. Claudette Snorton. To mark homecoming Homecoming will be celebrated at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church near Union City Sunday. Sunday school will convene at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11 and a potluck meal, with meat furnished by the church, at noon. The Rev. Ralph Gunter, a former pastor, will be the guest speaker. The annual Mt. Zion Cemetery meeting will follow. The public is invited to attend. Church to host event Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church near Union City will celebrate Decoration Day Sunday, with Sunday school beginning at 10 a.m. and the Rev. Judd Mowery bringing the message at worship, set for 11. A potluck meal will be served at noon. The cemetery association will meet at 1:15. All friends and neighbors and those who have relatives buried at Sanders Chapel Cemetery are encouraged to attend this session to discuss the financial status and maintenance of the cemetery. Following the business session, there will be special singing that will include congregational singing. The community is invited to attend. Living Truth to sing Living Truth Quartet will sing at Willingham Memorial Baptist Church in Ridgely at 1:30 p.m. June 2. The church will be celebrating homecoming that day and there will be a noon meal following regular Sunday morning worship and learning times. The public is invited to attend. Cobb’s Chapel UMC sets celebration Cobb’s Chapel United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming and Decoration Day Sunday at the church, which is located on Shawtown Road near Hornbeak. Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11 and a potluck meal to begin at the close of the service. The cemetery association will meet at 1:30. Donations for cemetery upkeep may be mailed to Mayme Denton at 3623 West Main St., Union City, TN 38261. The Rev. Walter Asher and the congregation invite the community to join them for this special day. |
