Employees at three local restaurants were charged with misdemeanor alcohol offenses after allegedly selling beer to someone under 21 years of age.
The charges were levied Friday night after Union City police used someone under the age of 21 for alcohol compliance checks at various locations.
As a result, three people — one employee each at Los Portales, Sassafraz and Patio Grill — were charged with unlawful sale of alcohol, according to Union City Police Department reports released Wednesday.
Alvaro Martinez Cruz of 829 High St., Union City, was issued a misdemeanor citation for unlawful sale of alcohol after the underage person entered Los Portales at 1720 West Reelfoot Ave. about 7:30 p.m. and allegedly was able to purchase a bottle of beer from a waiter.
Cruz was identified as the waiter by his name on the receipt for the sale, according to the police report. Police returned to the restaurant at a later time and issued the citation.
Hannah Paige Fessenden, 21, of 121 Mimosa Drive, Martin, was charged with unlawful sale of alcohol through a misdemeanor citation after the underage person allegedly was able to purchase a bottle of beer from a waitress after entering Sassafraz at 2205 West Reelfoot Ave. about 7:30 p.m.
Ms. Fessenden was identified as the waitress through the use of the restaurant’s video system after police returned to the restaurant later in the night, at which time she was issued the citation, police reported.
Joel Mendoza Martinez, 28, of 1013 Nevel St., Union City, was issued a misdemeanor citation charging him with unlawful sale of alcohol after the underage person entered Patio Grill at 1421 West Reelfoot Ave. about 6:45 p.m. and allegedly was able to purchase a bottle of beer from a waiter.
Martinez was identified as the waiter from his name on the receipt and he was issued a citation after police returned to the restaurant at a later time, according to the report.
