This week was National Nursing Home Week.  The facility had a 50’s theme with lots of activities and programs scheduled.  A balloon release was held on Monday morning with a devotional lead by administrator David McBride.  Many residents participated in this event to kick off the special week.
On Monday afternoon, the activity room transformed into a malt shop.  The theme was complete with soda jerks serving the residents root beer, Coke™ or Sprite™ floats.
Residents enjoyed popcorn and movies on Wednesday.  The featured films included “Grease,” and “Lucy and Desi’s Westinghouse Special.”
The annual employee bake off was held on Thursday afternoon.  The residents were the judges and taste testers of all entries.  First-place winners in three different categories included Kerri Step, Marcy Hopper and Gabe Martin.
Friday was supposed to be a day outside with a car show, carnival food, picnic, games and music.  Due to the extremely wet weather, we have rescheduled this for May 24.  We hope that the day will be nice and sunny so we can have our big day of fun.
This week’s cover card winners were Bobby Bynum, Larry Cheatham, Dorothy Farrar, Dorothy Larson, Maurice Riddick and Kammye Callison.  Each received one dollar for completing their entire cards before the rest of the crowd.
For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, each of the participants leaves with a prize.  Keeping nostalgic with our theme, this week’s prize was a moon pie and a Coke.  Everyone was thrilled to receive this tasty and timeless treat.
Two sporting events took place this week.  The first-place winner of the record Launch was Ray Crowell with 200 points.  Bobby Bynum finished as his runner up in this game, but came back to take first place in can crash with 17 points.  Tying for second was Ray Crowell and Ramona Mitchell with 15 points.  This week’s game was the price is right.  Winners included Dorothy Larson, Bobby Bynum, Ray Crowell, Frances Darling, and Jane McKnight.  Congratulations to our winners.
The residents enjoyed a social hour on Friday afternoon.  Ice cream cones were served alongside a classic “Elvis” movie.  Everyone had a great time.  It was a nice rain plan for our scheduled Friday program.
Dresden First United Methodist Church was with us on Tuesday afternoon.  They always do a wonderful job each month leading us in song and praise.
Bible Union Baptist Church returned for the weekly Bible study session.  They do a great job each week.
Sunday morning services were provided by Dresden First Baptist Church and Liberty Church of Christ.   Residents look forward to their religious services each week.  Thank you all for continuously blessing our residents.
The residents enjoyed two spectacular musical performances this weekend.  Martha Hayes was with us on Friday night for her monthly gospel session.
Friends of Carmen Kelley performed on Sunday afternoon.  They always delight with their talent each visit.  Thank you all for sharing your gifts with us.
The residents received a donation of lotions from Angie Brewer.  Thank you so much for thinking of us.  Your gift was very kind and thoughtful.
