Justin M. Woodard, 21, was charged with unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon and simple possession, according to the Martin Police Department.
It started when Woodard allegedly asked for a ride.
Patrolman Patrick Dilday noticed him walking west on Main Street and stopped to see if he needed help, according to an incident report.
Woodard said he had just got off work at MTD and could use a ride to 3J’s on Elm Street.
Before letting him in his vehicle, Dilday performed a safety pat down.
A search of a camo jacket Woodard was carrying led to the seizure of a Charter Arms .38 loaded with three rounds, as well as a cigarette box containing 1.7 grams of suspected marijuana.
