TTC-Newbern drafting student claims gold medal at contest Posted: Friday, May 17, 2013 6:00 pm The Messenger 05.17.13 Shane Walton, a drafting and CAD student from the Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern, recently won a gold medal for his performance in the state pin design competition at the SkillsUSA College/Postsecondary State Championships in Chattanooga. Walton is currently enrolled in the drafting and CAD program instructed by Shannon Stewart. He will advance to the national competition to be held in Kansas City, Mo., in June. Each state’s pin design winner will present the state-winning pin, along with the artwork, and participate in an oral presentation regarding all aspects of their creation of the design. Competitors explain how the pin represents the state, its unique qualities and why another SkillsUSA student or adult member would want to wear it. SkillsUSA is a national partnership of students, teachers and industry, working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
