James A. Burton, 81 of Martin, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern with Rev. Perry Grills officiating. Interment with honors was held at Martin Memorial Gardens in Martin. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were John Gill, Josh Burton, Chris Bullard, Larry Springer, Danny Battles, Ricky Lyle and Reid Crittendon. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons, Michael Arguello, Sam Gill, Christian Snyder, Austin Snyder and Brenton Burton.
Mr. Burton was born Wednesday, March 9, 1932 in Hornbeak, son of the late Clyde W. and Lillie Mae McGruder Burton. He was a 20 year retired veteran from the United States Air Force and retired employee for the State of Tennessee where he worked for the Department of Employment Security.
Survived include his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Betty S. Burton of Martin; two sons, Philip Burton of Greenfield and James Richard “Rick” Burton of Martin; one daughter, Pat Gill of Dyersburg; one brother, Billy Jack Burton of Metairie, La.; one sister, Judy Gibson of Brookland, Ark.; six grandchildren, Jenni Bullard and Jarid Burton, both of Dyersburg, John Gill of Trimble, Amber Davidson and Josh Burton, both of Greenfield and Theresa Wellman of Addison, Ill.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
