Amy (Redford) Maddox passed away May 14, 2013, in her 100th year, at Morningside Assisted Living of Jackson. 
A graveside service will be held at Highland Park Cemetery in Mayfield, Ky., Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Cecil Kirk officiating. A visitation with the family will be today from 5-7 p.m. at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel in Jackson. The family asks that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Jackson or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Amy Redford was born in Milburn, Ky., June 5, 1913, the daughter of the late Clyde and Lydia May (Wilson) Redford. She graduated from the former Milburn High School and attended the former Murray (Ky.) State College. She was teaching in Milburn when she met J.C. Maddox, who was principal there. They married on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933. 
Mrs. Maddox was a tremendous supporter of her family and her husband’s impactful career in education as they moved throughout the years from Milburn, Lone Oak and Sedalia in Kentucky, where Mr. Maddox was principal. He later served as superintendent of schools in Dyersburg, Union City and Mayfield.
After Mr. Maddox’s retirement, the couple moved to Jackson in 1976 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. 
Mrs. Maddox was an active and committed member of United Methodist churches in the various communities where she lived, most recently at First United Methodist of Jackson, and was a leader in United Methodist Women’s organizations in several locations.
She was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a caring and attentive teacher and friend. Mrs. Maddox and her husband, J.C., were married for 65 years, prior to his death on March 24, 2002.
Survivors include her sister, Helen Spalding of Jackson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Joe Nip McKnight and Sarah and Arthur Johnson Jr., all of Jackson; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John C. Maddox Jr. and Dr. Teri Maddox of Jackson; six grandchildren and their spouses, Meg McKnight of San Francisco, Buddy and Janna McKnight, Arthur “Chip” Johnson III and wife Christy Johnson, John C. “J” Maddox III, and Julia (Maddox) and Jeremy Lester, all of Jackson, and  Dr. Jill Johnson and husband Robert Underwood of Lexington, Ky.; and four great-grandchildren; Madison McKnight, Maddox McKnight, Drew Johnson and Jonah Lester, all of Jackson.
In addition to her husband and parents, her brother, Jack Redford, also preceded Mrs. Maddox in death.
