OC baseball tryouts
for incoming frosh

Baseball tryouts for incoming freshmen at Obion County Central High School will start at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rebels’ field on campus.
All players must have passed a physical to be eligible to attend the tryouts. Physicals will be offered in the high school gymnasium 3 p.m. Thursday for a fee of $15.
Physical forms are available in all junior high school offices.
Those wishing to try out should bring the forms, filled out and signed by a parent, and insurance information to the physical.

Hoops clinic slated
for ‘Little Dribblers’

A ‘Little Dribbler’ basketball clinic will be held during the month of June and July at the Troy Church of Christ.
Signups are from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church, and the instructional camp is for youths ages 4 to the sixth grade.
Cost is $60 per-month.
Instruction will be given on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during that time period.

Women’s winners
in Wynridge outing

The team of Charlotte Hall, Jacque Lethcoe and Shelly Stout combined to shoot a 2-under-par and win the weekly women’s scramble at Wynridge Greens in Troy on Tuesday.
There was a tie for second-place with the threesome of Linda Moore, Evelyn Whitten and Jackie Russell, and another group made up of Jane Hardin, Shirley Hardin, Rana Buchanan and Alicia Reece both finishing at 1-over.
Wynridge Greens holds its weekly women’s scramble every Tuesday.

Summitt statue
planned for UT

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee plans to honor former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt by building an on-campus statue in her honor.
Tennessee athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton confirmed this week what athletic director Dave Hart has been mentioning during the school’s Big Orange Caravan statewide tour.
Summitt led the Tennessee women’s basketball program to eight national titles and 18 Final Four appearances in 38 seasons before stepping down in April 2012, one year after she announced she had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type. Summitt’s 1,098 career victories make her the winnningest Division I men’s or women’s college basketball coach ever.

Titans sign DT
to 1-year deal

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have signed free-agent defensive tackle Antonio Johnson to a one-year contract in a move was announced earlier this week.
Johnson started 13 games and made 30 tackles last year for the Indianapolis Colts. He has played 67 games and has made 46 starts over the last five seasons for Indianapolis. His best season came in 2009, when he started 15 games and made 57 tackles.
The Titans originally selected Johnson out of Mississippi State in the of the 2007 draft.
He hurt his knee in training camp and spent the entire 2007 season on injured reserve. The Colts signed him off the Titans’ practice squad in 2008.
In another move, the Titans waived rookie undrafted free-agent linebacker Tom Wort, who failed his physical.
