Fulton County, Ky., authorities are continuing to investigate the theft of a pickup truck which was later found in flood backwaters.
Deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded about 4:40 p.m. Friday to Cody and Autumn Atwill’s residence in Fulton County, where Mrs. Atwill reported someone had stolen their 2006 Dodge Ram pickup sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday.
Mrs. Atwill told deputies she had reason to believe the vehicle may be in the backwater on State Route 1129 in Fulton County, according to a sheriff’s department news release issued Monday.
Sheriff’s deputies were sent to State Route 1129, where the vehicle was located about 300 yards from where the water began covering the roadway. The truck was submerged with the exception of the roof of the cab, but authorities on the scene were able to confirm no one was inside the vehicle, the sheriff’s department reported.
Due to the hazardous conditions of the high swift water, authorities were not able to retrieve the vehicle at that time.
The incident remains under investigation and it is expected charges will be filed, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone who has information about the theft is asked to contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department at (270) 236-2545. All tips will remain confidential.
In addition, Fulton County Sheriff Bobby Hopper is reminding citizens that several highways in Fulton County remain under water due to recent rains and flooding which resulted. He said motorists should not attempt to cross any of those flooded roadways.
