Nursing homes across the Volunteer State are planning a variety of events in honor of National Nursing Home Week, which begins on Mother’s Day, May 12, and continues through May 18. Gov. Bill Haslam also has proclaimed May 12-18 Nursing Home Week in Tennessee and encourages all Tennesseans to join in celebrating this special week.
From cookouts and carnivals to field trips and talent shows, Nursing Home Week is fun for residents, family, staff and volunteers. The week’s activities also provide opportunities for socializing, reminiscing and volunteering.
The 2013 National Nursing Home Week theme, “Team Care: Everyone Pitches In,” recognizes the team effort and dedication required to provide quality care to the elderly and disabled.  “We hope you will join us in celebrating this special week with the team that takes care of the elders at your local nursing home,” said Jesse Samples, executive director of the Tennessee Health Care Association (THCA), which is co-sponsoring the annual event along with the American Health Care Association (AHCA).
“It is a great time to visit nursing homes, participate in activities and thank the caregivers and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to providing quality care to the residents.”
THCA is a nonprofit organization representing long-term care facilities located throughout the state.
