Lady Lions rout Clarksburg to extend season

Dresden took control in the first inning with five quick runs and made short work of Clarksburg for an 11-3 win in their District 13A Softball Tournament game Thursday.
Abigail Lockhart kept Clarksburg from scoring until the fourth inning when the visitors put up one run. They added two more in the top of the fifth to make it a 7-3 game, but Dresden went on another scoring spree in the bottom of the sixth with four runs.
Kayla Hayes, Taylor McAlpin and KJ Smith all had run-scoring singles in the first inning. Carrie Hatchel had a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second, and Smith scored on a passed ball in the third after she hit a line drive triple down the right field line.
Both Lockhart and Hayes had three hits, while Hatchel and Smith had a pair of hits each. McAlpin drove in three runs with Hayes adding two RBIs.
Lockhart went the distance, giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks. She struck out 10 to give her 174 on the season while improving her record to 17-6.
H’don 12, Gleason 0
Fillies’ pitcher Hannah Belew had no problem overmatching the Gleason bats with a no-hitter in the five-inning game to end the Lady Bulldogs’ season.
The Fillies opened up the bottom of the first with five runs and scored one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth.
Callie Smith took the loss for Gleason by giving 12 runs on nine hits.
The Fillies improve their season record to 32-8.
Bruceton 10, Gleason 7
Both teams went back and forth in this slugfest with three ties and three lead changes.
Chase Ezell took the loss with 22⁄3 innings of relief. He gave up four earned runs on six hits and no walks. He also had three strikeouts. Austin Perry started on the mound and gave up five earned runs in 51⁄3 innings. He allowed six hits and four walks while striking out six.
Perry went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Keaton Collins went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. Mark McKenzie drove in one run while going 1-for-4 with a double.
Hunter Corum, Blake Taylor and Ezell also had one RBI each.
Dresden 15, BS 0
The Lions sent the Red Devils packing as they blew away Big Sandy with one run in the first, six in the second and eight in the third.
The game was called after three on the 15-run rule.
Kourtney Sawyer pitched no-hit ball in the three-inning game.
