Rain, mud and a lot of Nic Fortner was more than enough for Westview on Monday night.
The Chargers will play on in the Region 7 A-AA soccer tournament after beating Union City 6-0 with Fortner scoring the hat trick on the slick soccer field in Martin. Westview will travel to Troy today to take on Obion Central in the quarterfinals.
Westview was relegated to the No. 3 seed after losing to Milan on the Thursday in the final game of the regular season.

Unexpected rain hit Martin just a few minutes before the game was scheduled to start, and lightning along with the referees being late caused a 40-minute delay.
Fortner scored three straight goals after Ashton Meyer and Hagen Little netted the first two goals for the Chargers. Fortner scored at the 14:13 mark in the first half to make it 3-0. He then scored with 32:07 to play in the second half and scored his third goal with 22:38 to play.
Meyer got Westview on the board with 32:03 to play in the first half, and Little made it 2-0 with 17:44 to go in the half. Trevor Holcomb netted the Chargers final goal with 3:40 to play.
The mud in front of the UC goal also helped out on the Chargers’ scoring and both UC goalies had problems with their footing in front of the goal.
Garma had two assists, while Little had one and Brandon Stacks also had one assist.
Conner Blanchard did not have many save opportunities as Westview kept the ball on its side of the midfield line most of the game, but he did save two shots.
It was the rain that had Westview head coach Dan Scates concerned.
“That was the main thing I was worried about,” Scates said. “If you have to delay another day and somebody else is playing where it is not raining you kind of put yourself in a situation where you have to play three days in a row.”
Westview is now 10-6.
Milan 2, Westview 1
Nathan Wilson was the only Charger able to get the ball into net with Brandon Hauhe feeding it to him for the assist.
Blanchard had five saves on goal for Westview.
The Chargers fell to the third seed and downed Union City in the 7A-AA opener. The Bulldogs will be the host team as the No. 1 seed for the tournament semifinals and championship game with their win over the Chargers.
