Friday’s rains made a mess out of the spring sports postseason brackets.
Two days of play were washed out in most tournaments, forcing tournament directors to scramble and reschedule their respective events that must be completed by the end of the coming week.
Some venues have been changed, times have been altered in others, and still a few more remain up in the air as that action is scheduled to resume today.
As of presstime, the updated schedule(s) reads this way:
Saturday’s games were postponed, making necessary the following changes.
The two winner’s bracket games — Union City vs. Greenfield and Halls vs. Trenton — will be played today at Halls. The Tornadoes and ’Jackets will play at 4:30, followed by the host team against Peabody at 7 p.m.
The loser’s bracket games pitting Humboldt vs. Bradford and Lake County against South Fulton have been moved to Ripley High School. They will be played today at 4:30 and 7.
All games after today are slated to be played at Halls.
Two loser’s bracket games will be played Tuesday at 4:30 and 7 p.m., with the winner’s bracket final now slated for Wednesday night at 7. The loser’s bracket final will be played Thursday evening at 6, with the championship round slated for Friday — the first game at 4:30, the second, if needed, to immediately follow.
Both Friday’s and Saturday’s games were called off, forcing a complete overhaul of the bracket.
The tournament is still scheduled to be played at Halls.
The new lineup has Trenton playing Lake County (4 p.m.) and Halls facing Greenfield (5:30) in first-round games today. The Peabody-LC winner will meet top-seeded Union City at 7 tonight.
On Tuesday, the Halls-G’field survivor advances to play No. 2 seed South Fulton at 4 p.m. Loser’s bracket games will follow at 5:30 and 7.
The winner’s bracket final is on tap for Wednesday at 5 o’clock, with another loser’s bracket game to follow at 6:30.
The remainder of the tourney has yet to be scheduled but will wrap up either Thursday or Friday.
No games were played on Friday or Saturday, but the original schedule remains in place — just pushed back two days.
Obion Central is to play Gibson County today at 4 at the Martin Recreation Complex and would play again at 5:30 against Ripley if it wins the opener.
Two victories by OC today would push the Lady Rebels into another round in the loser’s bracket, namely Tuesday at Dyersburg State Community College in a 4 p.m. game.
Another loss would effectively end Central’s season.
The girls’ district team championship between Union City and Haywood was postponed Friday and rescheduled for today.
The winner will advance to play Greenfield Thursday at Bethel University.
Thursday’s champion will move on to play in the sectionals with that winner advancing to the state tournament in Murfreesboro.
