Rain-soaked Twisters
put away Pioneers

The Union City High School soccer team will enter the postseason on a winning note, having beaten Gibson County 4-1 in the rain Friday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.
Will Thralls scored a pair of first-half goals, while Cace Cook and Alex Vasquez found the net after the intermission for the Tornadoes, who won their third match of their inaugural season.
Walker Barnes had two assists and Vasquez one.
Barnes, Brett Gore, Abram Carroll, Brian Dawson, Hunter Orr and manager Itzel Vasquez were all honored in Senior Night ceremonies before the contest.
Union City begins play in the regional tournament today, playing at Westview at 5 p.m.

Wynridge golf outing
decided by scorecard

Incorrect information was submitted to The Messenger Friday regarding the score for the winning team in the weekly Wynridge men’s golf scramble.
The foursome of Bim Barker, Damon Campbell, Doug Bobo and David Puckett won a scorecard playoff — shooting 6-under.
Finishing second was the team of Dan Wiley, Teddy Montgomery, Jason Montgomery and Mitchell Montgomery, which also shot 6-under.
The scramble is held each Thursday at the Troy course at 5:30 p.m.

Second-seeded OC
at home in soccer

Obion Central — the No. 2 finisher in the West Division of the Region 7A-AA soccer league — will play at home today at 5 in the first round of the postseason.
The Rebels will host Gibson County, the seventh-place team from the East.
A win today would advance OC into Tuesday’s second round against the victor of today’s Westview-Union City match.
Should Central win, Tuesday’s match would also be in Troy.
Other first-round matches have South Fulton playing Haywood with the winner taking on Milan, Trenton meeting Ripley, Dyersburg facing McKenzie and South Gibson playing Covington, with that winner advancing to face Crockett County.
The quarterfinals will be Tuesday.
