| Two men drowned on Reelfoot Lake after their boat apparently sank in a storm that blew through Wednesday afternoon. The victims were identified as Douglas Arnold, 59, of Jackson and John Clark, 79, of Millbrook, Ala. Sources said Clark apparently stayed in Samburg often during his summers and was known in the area. The two friends reportedly were in a 14-foot boat and had gone out Wednesday afternoon from the Keystone Pocket area. Their boat apparently sank during a small storm that blew through the area, and authorities believe they went down about 3:30 p.m. on the far southwest side of Reelfoot Lake in Lake County. Rescuers searched for the men throughout the evening and overnight. The all-night search operation involved Reelfoot Lake State Park rangers, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Lake County Rescue Squad and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Arnold’s body was recovered about 3:30 a.m. today and Clark’s body was found about 9:30 a.m. today, according to information provided to The Lake County Banner by emergency medical services, the sheriff’s department and state park rangers at the scene. The men’s boat was also recovered. Published in The Messenger 5.2.13 | | | |
