UCMS soccer team advances in tourney Union City advanced past the first round of the West Tennessee Region soccer tournament on Monday with a 4-1 win over Augustine. Kip Tilghman and Santiago Ruiz both scored twice for the junior Golden Tornadoes, who will host Chester County in the quarterfinal round this afternoon at 5:30. Tilghman gave UC its first goal off a corner kick from Ruiz, and then Ruiz scored the next two goals. Tilghman was unassistated on the Twisters’ fourth goal. Union City will take a 7-1 record into today’s match vs. CC. Reelfoot club to host big bass tournament The Reelfoot Lake Bass Club will oversee its 12th annual Big Bass Tournament on Reelfoot Lake, May 11. Blastoff will take place at 6 a.m. at Kirby’s Pocket with weigh-in set for noon at the same venue. Pre-registration fee is $60 with a cut-off time being 5 p.m. on May 8. Guaranteed paybacks are $400 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Those who pre-enter will be eligible for a $50 BP gas card. UT adds one year to Hart’s contract KNOXVILLE — Tenn-essee has extended athletics director Dave Hart’s six-year contract by one year, Chancellor Jimmy Cheek announced Monday. Hart was named vice chancellor and director of athletics on Sept. 5, 2011. The contract extension moves its end date to Sept. 18, 2018. It also provides for one additional year with a $50,000 retention bonus. Hart’s salary remains the same at $592,250. Since coming to UT, he has received one 3 percent raise, in July 2012.
