The accident about 3:45 p.m. involved vehicles driven by Joann Carr, 68, of 1116 Russell St., Union City; Gwendolyn Polk, 31, of 1530 High School Drive, Union City; and Raven Symone Brown, 22, of 1905 East Vine St. Ext., Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report. Police reported Ms. Carr was southbound on Miles Avenue and Ms. Polk was stopped at a stop sign at East Main Street and Miles Avenue, while Ms. Brown was northbound on Miles Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto East Main Street. Ms. Brown apparently turned left in an attempt to turn onto East Main Street, turning into the path of Ms. Carr’s vehicle. Both Ms. Carr’s 2000 Pontiac and Ms. Brown’s 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier then slid into the front end of Ms. Polk’s 1997 Mercury Marquis. Ms. Brown sustained a minor cut to the face but was not transported for medical treatment. One of her two back seat passengers, 5-year-old Gabriel Clemmons, received a severe cut to the chin, several scratches and knots to the head, resulting in his being transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City, according to the report. Police said Ms. Brown was issued a citation charging her with failure to yield the right of way, no proof of insurance and failure to carry vehicle registration, as well as a misdemeanor citation for driving on a suspended driver’s license. |
