Chargers’ extra kicks bring happy ending Posted: Friday, April 26, 2013 12:00 pm It took awhile for Westview’s soccer game against South Gibson on Tuesday to be decided. Ending 0-0 at the end of regulation, the Chargers eventually came out on top with 4-1 win on penalty kicks. It was Westview’s second win in as many days, following a 2-1 verdict against Covington on Monday. Westview 4, SG 1 Conner Blanchard had five saves in regulation as the Chargers and Hornets went through 80 minutes of soccer without scoring. The game was decided on penalty kicks, where the Chargers shined. Nic Fortner, Jorge Fabian, Hagen Little and Gian Garma each netted a penalty kick past the SG goalkeeper, while Blanchard saved a pair of penalty kicks to give him seven saves for the game. Westview can now wrap up the Eastern Division in Region 7 A-AA with a win over Trenton tonight and secure home field advantage in the regional tournament as the tournament shifts over to the winner of the Eastern Division this season. Tonight’s game is also senior night for Westview. The Chargers are now 8-4 on the season. Fabian and Garma netted the goals for the Chargers with Brandon Stacks getting an assist. Blanchard continues to play well while guarding the net as he had five saves on goal for the Chargers.
