We celebrated our residents with a “you’re a hoot” party on Friday. The room was decorated in balloons, bright polka dots, stars and cute little owls. The residents requested pizza and cheese sticks as the food. They also had cupcakes and ice cream for dessert. Earlier that morning, many gathered to create their very own owls in bright festive colors. Everyone had a great time.
This week’s cover card winners were Walter Bennett, Catherine Cantrell, Elise Wright, Mag Yeargin, Dorothy Larson and Willie Dismuke. Each of these lucky winners received one dollar for completing their entire cards first.
For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, we play until everyone is a winner. Each of the participants left with a selection from our prize bin. It was filled with many special items for them to choose from. We continue to have large crowds at the Bingo games and the support needed for each to fully participate. Thank you all for your assistance.
The residents participated in four sporting events this week. While one gentleman placed in every winner’s bracket, each participant put up a wonderful challenge. Ray Crowell took first place in ladder golf with Bob Bynum hot on his heels in second.
These two men battled it out again in skee-bean with Crowell finishing first and Bynum as the runner-up. Lamont Godfrey was the archery champion with a score of 23. Ray Crowell finished in second place with 15 points. Crowell scored 42 points to win splat ball, but Mildred Turner was only one point shy coming in right behind him. Congratulations to all our winners and a big hand to all the participants.
Wednesday was movie day at our facility. The residents selected two classics that everyone enjoyed. That morning we watched Clark Gable and Lana Turner in “Honky Tonk.” It was a wonderful movie that had everyone in high spirits as they watched. That afternoon was the western great, “Shane.” It seemed to be a hit with a room full until the credits rolled. They also enjoyed fresh popped popcorn from our facility machine. This tasty snack adds to any movie experience and the delicious aroma seems to lure everyone to the activity room.
The residents had two wonderful musical performances. Martha Hayes and friends were with us on Friday night for their monthly gospel singing. She does a wonderful job and the residents are always thrilled to have her and her guest perform. Friends of Carmen Kelley performed on Sunday afternoon. They did an outstanding job with a packed room singing along to their talents. Thank you all for sharing your wonderful gifts with us.
Dresden First Baptist Church and Liberty Church of Christ were with us for Sunday morning services. Bible Union Baptist Church conducted our Wednesday evening Bible Study. We are so blessed to have these congregations provide spiritual services for our residents each week. They provide spiritual growth with ease to our residents.
