A Dyer man was charged Tuesday with allegedly being in possession of marijuana in a school zone in Union City.
Leslie Lamont Brown, 37, of 140 North Royal St., Dyer, was arrested at 3:19 p.m. on High School Drive and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school zone, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police investigators stopped Brown in the 1700 block of High School Drive due to his having an active capias for alleged cocaine sales. An investigator reported Brown walked to a driver’s side tire of his vehicle and the investigator observed two bags of a substance believed to be marijuana hit the ground beside Brown’s feet.
According to the report, the investigator picked up a larger plastic bag and found other small bags of marijuana inside it. This was reported to be next to the vehicle tire.
Police said a search yielded two more small bags of marijuana inside Brown’s jacket pocket and $112 in small denominations inside another pocket.
A total of 14 small bags of marijuana, allegedly packed for sale and weighing 16.5 grams with packaging, were recovered, according to the report. The money was also seized.
Police reported the incident occurred less than 1,000 feet from Union City Elementary School, the Obion County Fairgrounds and Graham Park — all school zones.
