Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin laid off 16 people this past week.
In a prepared statement issued to the Weakley County Press, hospital officials stated, “these changes were made with compassion, and we have provided appropriate support for impacted employees. We value the skills and service of each individual and regret that the reductions were necessary.”
“We continually monitor volume and acuity to ensure staffing supports the      services our patients and community need,” said the prepared statement issued by Lora McDonald, the director of public relations at Volunteer Community Hospital.
Volunteer Community Hospital is a 100-bed facility owned by Community Health Systems in Brentwood.
“We have carefully considered these decisions to ensure we will not compromise patient care, quality or safety and that no one area of the hospital was overly impacted.”
This past month, Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky., announced job cuts affecting 28 employees.
