Completed arrangements are being announced for Guy Byars Jr., 85, of Union City, who died 2:10 a.m. April 23, 2013, at Union City Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Dr. Melvin Poe will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Horner, Andrew Horner, Leonard Davis, Ian Davis, Jeremiah Brock and Steve Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Harrison, Pete Harrison, Gordon McKinney, Larry Hitesman and Jerry Sherrill.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today.
He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Dukedom, son of the late Guy Byars Sr. and the late Liddie Iris (Tucker) Dunlap. He married the former Carrie Asher Feb. 27, 1974. She survives. He was a retired self-employed painter and a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City.
He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Bynum of Martin and Lisa and Jim Horner of Union City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Butch and Judy Byars of Palmersville and Monty and Mary Byars of Rives; two stepsons, Donnie Brock of Danville, Va., and Leonard Davis of Union City; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Byars; his daughter, Paula Counsell; and his stepson, Russell Brock.
