Suzanne’s Really Really Famous Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
1 cup shortening, butter-flavored makes a richer tasting cookie
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups self-rising flour
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts, optional

Mix together the first five ingredients with an electric mixer. Add flour and continue mixing. By hand, stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Spray a large cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray and dump the whole mixture in the pan. Flour your hands and spread out evenly. Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Sometimes, I add white chocolate chips to this recipe. Everything is the same, but I add 1 cup of white chips or use 6 ounces (1 cup) of semi-sweet and 1 cup of white. YUMMY! — Suzanne Hill
