After loss to Cavs,
Rebels stop Milan

After losing its first match of the season in a region showdown vs. Crockett County Friday, Obion Central bounced back with a 4-2 prep soccer victory over Milan on Saturday.
The Rebels are now 8-1 heading into today’s action at McKenzie.
Jose Comacho scored two minutes into Saturday’s match against the Bulldogs and Eric Torres and Mario Ramirez added goals before halftime to help OC to a 3-0 halftime lead.
Central was forced to play the second half down a man after a player was ejected, but sealed the victory when Alejandro Ramirez found the net with a penalty kick with about seven minutes to play.
Albert Acevedo had two saves in goal for the victors.
Acevedo had gone down with cramps 13 minutes into the second half of the Rebels’ match vs. Crockett County Friday with OC down 2-0.
Freshman Roberto Vasquez gave a valiant effort, according to head coach Daniel Johnston, but gave up three goals that allowed the Cavs to pull away.
Alejandro Ramirez scored Central’s lone goal.

Underwood winner
in Slugfest event

Union City native and Obion County Central High School graduate Zach Underwood ran his professional record to 11-4 with a unanimous decision over Deivision Ribeiro in the co-main event of XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest Friday night.
Underwood, considered an underdog coming in by many in the mixed martial art business against a fighter with twice a much experience, instead grinded out the victory on all three judges’ scorecards with tough, smothering tactics.
After three five-minute rounds, Underwood — who suffered a cut over his left eye when apparently struck by a toe-nail on a Riberiro kick attempt — was ahead 29-28 on two and held a 30-27 advantage on the other in the 145-pound match that was broadcast live on AXS-TV.
The win was the third straight for Underwood, who is trained by his brother Jake — also a MMA fighter who’ll be in action next month on a card in Paducah.
Riberiro (23-9) lost for the second straight time.
