UC early lead falls
in loss to McKenzie
Union City couldn’t hold onto a 2-0 lead and dropped a 5-3 decision at McKenzie Thursday afternoon in prep soccer.
Cace Cook scored the Tornadoes’ first goal and assisted on the second when Alex Vazquez found the net.
Cook added a second goal after the intermission via a penalty kick, but defensive struggles kept UC from winning for a second time in its inaugural season on the pitch.
The Twisters (1-10) play at Gibson County Monday.
Wynridge will host
Wynridge Golf Club in Troy will begin hosting women’s scramble on Tuesday.

UTM junior netter
The UT Martin junior Ivon Simic has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s second team as voted on by the league’s head tennis coaches.
Playing at No. 1 in both singles and doubles in every match this season, Simic posted an 8-12 record in singles and 9-9 mark in doubles against the stiffest competition the opposition had to offer. Against league competition, the Lauterbach, Hesse, Germany native went 4-6 in singles play and 7-2 in doubles while teaming with Anna Marie Herbold.
Also an All-OVC second teamer last season, Simic finished 2013 on a two-match winning streak in singles and a three-match winning streak in doubles.
For her career, Simic boasts a winning record against OVC foes in both singles (14-12, .538 winning percentage) and doubles (16-2, .889).
for UT Martin rodeo
The UT Martin men’s rodeo team has officially clinched a spot in the upcoming College National Finals Rodeo, winning the Ozark Region with 7,465 points in its 10 rodeos this season.
UTM captured the Ozark Region title by 3,145 points. In the national standings, UT Martin is ranked No. 2 in the country behind the College of Southern Idaho.
A total of 13 UTM cowboys and cowgirls will be making the trip to the CNFR in Casper, Wyo., on June 9-15.
Representing the UT Martin men’s team will be Clark Adcock, John Alley, Jacob Dagenhart, Ty Hughston, Robert Joyce, Will Lummus, Clay Mitchell, Lane Mitchell, Jordan Thrasher, Ben Walker and Tyler Waltz. On the women’s side, Natalie Fletcher and Mary Francis Gorsuch have also qualified for the CNFR.
Alley’s horse — Rodeo Red — also won horse of the year, while UT Martin head coach John Luthi brought home coach of the year accolades. The UTM spring rodeo was also named rodeo of the year for the eighth consecutive season.
Liberty Bowl sets
December date, time
MEMPHIS (AP) — The Liberty Bowl will be played Dec. 31 and start at 2 p.m.
The Liberty Bowl usually pits Conference USA against the Southeastern Conference.
