All-West game puts WV pair together Posted: Friday, April 19, 2013 12:00 pm Sean Stephenson gets to coach Teddy Vncent one more time. He also gets to see what having Briana Jones on a team would have been like. The Weakley County trio will be among the top seniors girls playing in the West Tennessee Ridgecrest National Guard All-Star basketball game May 4 at Liberty Tech High School in Jackson. There will also be a boys’ game as part of the weekend event showcasing the top senior players from the region before they head off to college. Stephenson will be joined on the Brooksie’s Barn team coaching staff by Dion Real of Covington. The Lady Chargers advanced to the Class 2A state tournament last month, finishing the year with a 29-7 record. In his eight years as head coach at Martin, Stephenson has led the program to a 210-63 record and three state tournament trips. Vincent, a High Point (N.C.) University signee, was a Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state selection as a senior and started all 100 Westview games since beginning her sophomore season. This past season, she led the Lady Chargers in scoring with 18.6 points and rebounds with seven per game. The 5-8 wing player shot 53 percent from the floor and 86 percent from the free throw line. She set a school record with 42 points against Crockett County. Westview won 29 games this past season, reaching the state tourney before falling to Elizabethton in the opening round. Jones was the Gleason team leader this past season, scoring 19.7 points and grabbing 9.7 rebounds a game as the Lady Bulldogs posted a 21-8 overall record. Those numbers capped a career where she averaged 12.7 points and 7.2 rebounds overall, scoring over 1,500 points during her four-year time. A TSWA all-state selection this past season, she has signed with Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. The teams were selected by a coaches’ draft, meaning some teammates will play against each other, and coaches will face off against some of the players. Union City girls’ head coach Eddie Suiter and Lady Tornado player Tory Reedy will be on opposite benches after guiding their team to the Class 1A state tournament each of the past two seasons. Covington’s Ashia Jones, a UT Martin commitment, and Precious Harvey will also be against each other as all-stars. Teammates of Vincent and Jones will include UC’s Reedy as well as Brandi Goodman and Paige Hicks of Obion County Central, and Jasmine Whittemore of Gibson County while their opponents on the National Guard team will include Taleeah Cross and Laken Haley of South Fulton and Shamone Pearson of Lake County.
