UC continues winning trends with Dyersburg visit

It was another near-perfect day for the Union City tennis teams on Monday.
UC continued a season-long trend of winning by either 7-0 or 6-1 scores, the Golden Tornadoes added Dyersburg to their list as the Twister boys posted the team shutout of 7-0, while the Lady Tornadoes posted a 6-1 decision.
The top four seeds in boys’ play posted two wins, one each in singles and doubles.
Jacob Triplett and Devin King had a relatively easy day all around. Triplett defeated Josh Williams 8-2 at No. 1 and King handled Jamie Hardin 8-1 at No. 3 in singles. The two blanked Williams and Nic Bowers earlier in the match at the top doubles spot.
Sam Critchlow had a shutout win over Bowers at the No. 2 singles spot, while Ellis Critchlow battled past Jesse Cochran for a 9-7 win. In doubles, the brothers won 8-3.
Maddie King and Tara Elam rolled past Catherine Moore and Madison Vaughn 8-1 in their doubles match, and then King posted an 8-2 win over Corena Hasselle at the top singles spot.
Jenna Miller and Ellen Bearden proved too tough in singles and doubles, winning at the third and fourth seeds, respectively, in singles after teaming up for a win at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Bearden’s singles verdict over Rachel Clift was by shutout, while Miller topped Madison Vaughn 8-4.
The pair had earlier posted an 8-2 win in doubles.
Alex Parks closed out the Lady Twisters’ win with an 8-3 decision over Erin Rausch at the fifth seed.
UC’s girls are now 8-1, while the boys are 7-2. The Tornadoes are slated to be back in action today at Trenton Peabody starting at 4:15.
