Man nabbed after breaking into hotel vending machine
A 19-year-old man was recently charged with vandalism and theft of property after Martin Police say he pried open a vending machine at a local hotel and stole beverages and money.
Things apparently went from bad to worse for Kyro L. Quinto, who was found to have active warrants out of Montgomery County, including four counts of burglary, violation of probation and felony escape.
The incident began about 9 p.m. when Lt. John Cross was dispatched to the Days Inn at 800 University St. in reference to vandalism of a vending machine. The suspect was still on the property.
Upon arriving on the scene, dispatch informed Cross that the subject was spotted by a witness, Larry Barnes, running westbound behind Los Portales.
Cross and Sgt. Miller pursued the suspect on foot toward the University Plaza area, and Miller spotted the suspect behind Dollar General.
A witness told Miller the suspect jumped the fence and ran behind Cine Theater. The suspect was eventually apprehended in the area of Brandy’s restaurant.
Returning to the vending machine at the hotel, officers noted it had been pried open and the majority of its contents and money was missing.
An estimated $3,000 of damage was done to the machine, with the contents valued at $200.
The vending machine is owned by Darell Sherrill, owner of S&S Vending in Martin.
